THERE IS
There is, is used whit SINGULAR plugin, which means that we are talking about one thing, person, place, etc.
EXAMPLE 
1) There is a curtain in my bedroom- Hay una cortina en mi dormitorio.
2) There is a chair in the kitchen- Hay una silla en mi cocina.
Affirmative 
1) There is a fly on the window.
2) There is some coffe in the kitchen.
Negative
1) There isn't a fly on the window.
2) There isn't some coffe in the kitchen. 
Question
1) Is there a fly on the window.
2) Is there some coffe in the kitchen. 
There are 
There are is used with PLURAL complement, which means that we are talking about 2or more things, people or places. 
Affirmative 
1) There are 2 curtains in my beedroom.
2) There are 3 a chair in the kitchen. 
Negative 
1) There aren't 2 curtains in my bedroom.
2) There aren't 3 a chairs in the kitchen.
Question 
1) Are there 2 curtains in my bedroom.
2) Are there 3 a chairs in the kitchen.
