THERE WAS AND THERE WERE

Are the past of "There was" and "There were" means in spanish "habia, habian y hubo". 
There was 
It is used when we talk about a thing, that is to say in the singular. This can be countable or uncountable. 
Example 
1) There was a pencil on the table. 
Había  un lápiz sobre la mesa. 
2) There was a Queen. 
Había una Reina. 
There were
It sis used when we talk about two or more (plural nouns) These can only be countable.
Example 
1) There were  three blind mice.
Habían tres ratones ciegos. 
2) There were some chairs.
Habían tres sillas.
Negative form 
Let us now look at the negative forms of There was and There were.
 There was- There wasn't 
 There were- There weren't 
There wasn't ( there was not) and There weren't (there were not)  
Mean in spanish "no había, no habían, no hubo" 
1) There wasn't a shop. 
No había una tienda.
2) There was not a shop

Interrogative form
 When we want to ask question with there was and there were we must change the position of both words. 

      There was - Was there...?
      There were - Were there...? 
In both cases was cases was and were must go before there.
1) Was there a park there?/ ¿había un parque alli? 
Yes, there was / No, there weren't 
2) Were there any restaurant? / ¿había restaurantes? 
Yes, there was / No, there weren't.
